Transfers
Roundtrip transfers between the airport and hotel are included with your air and hotel vacation package. Juan N. Alvarez International Airport is located 14 miles southeast of Acapulco Bay, approximately a 30-minute drive.

Bus
Acapulco has a good local bus system, with buses every few minutes to most popular tourist attractions. The fancier, yellow, air-conditioned buses that travel up and down La Costera Avenue along the bay cost slightly more, and all have their destinations clearly marked on the windshield.

Taxi
Always agree on the fare before you climb into the cab, and it never hurts to bargain with taxi drivers. There are several types of taxis; the main ones are the large American-type vehicles, usually available at hotels, and there are also the old-fashioned Volkswagen Beetles, which are considerably cheaper.

Note: Be aware that when trying to find your way around Acapulco, street names and numbers are generally not logical or well marked.

You’ll find a wide range of restaurants in the Acapulco resort area, many of which offer breathtaking views of Aca-pulco Bay. The restaurants offer many unique tastes from authentic Mexican fare and gourmet intercontinental dishes to American fast food.

  Family-run restaurant serving fresh seafood and shellfish with a Belgian twist. After dinner, make sure you've saved room for a taste from the on-site French bakery.
• Suntory
  Japanese favorites such as sushi and teppanyaki. The best Japanese food in town.

Acapulco’s nonstop nightlife is legendary. When the sun goes down Acapulco’s discos light up. With impeccable ser-vice, fireworks, laser shows, and spectacular bay views, no other place in the world offers a greater concentration for dazzling discos. Popularity comes and goes, so check with your hotel for the latest hot spots. In addition, many places have a cover charge that does NOT include drinks, while some places charge just one cover that includes all drinks; make sure you know what you are paying for before you enter.

• Baby Lobster Bar Acapulco
  A vibrant, open-air bar located on the beach. Enjoy 2-for-1 beverages (you can’t order just one) and a rowdy atmosphere.
• Disco Beach Acapulco
  An open-air disco with views of the beach and foam parties every Friday.
• El Alebrije
  Massive amounts of fun at this club that holds 5,000 people! Caters to a younger crowd.
• Mangos Acapulco
  Air-conditioned bar with a view of the beach. No cover charge.
• Baby O
  A long-time favorite for its chaotic pace and “caveman” interior. Exclusive and expensive.
• Palladium
  Glass walls with breathtaking views of Acapulco Bay. Stick around for the silver fire dancer at 4:00am. All-inclusive with cover. Best on Thursdays and Saturdays.
• Paradise
  A huge deck on the beach for dancing the night away. Be sure to try the bunjee jumping.
• Señor Frog’s
  For the young at heart. This popular hot spot features an upbeat and fun atmosphere.

Abundant shopping can be found almost everywhere in Acapulco. The only notable exception is on the beach, thanks to a law prohibiting beach vendors. Those vendors have been relocated to several new handicraft markets. Choose from over a dozen modern malls. Stroll La Costera Avenue for souvenirs. Explore the bustling municipal market. Or explore one of the many fine hotel shopping arcades.

Acapulco is famous for its trendy resortwear. Several Mexican and international designers have outlets in Acapulco. Acapulco is also famous for its silver, handcrafted jewelry, leather accessories and shoes, and fine art.

Acapulco never needs an excuse for a party, but like all of Mexico, it loves its fiestas.

Carnival Fair
February. Pre-Lenten festival, celebrated throughout Acapulco. Downtown Acapulco hosts various parades, and a king and queen are crowned.

Presidential Birthday
March 21. National holiday celebrating the birthday of Benito Juarez.

Acapulco Fest
May. Sports activities with concerts and more at the convention center.

Independence Day
September 16. Public holiday celebrating Mexico’s independence from Spain.

Columbus Day
October. Public holiday celebrating the life and adventures of Christopher Columbus.

Día de los Muertos
November 2. Day of the Dead, or All Souls’ Day.

Las Posadas
December. Las Posadas observances commemorate Joseph and Mary’s search for shelter.

Festival de la Virgen de Guadalupe
December 11. Mexico’s patron saint is celebrated all night on December 11 and all the following day. There are street processions accompanied by small marching bands, fireworks and folk dances, all converging on the cathedral in the Zócalo (town square), where costumed children congregate.

Watch the Cliff Divers
When in Acapulco, seeing the La Quebrada cliff divers is an aboslute must. To see the show from one of the public areas, the admission is $2.50 and the views are great. The spectacle can also be seen from the lobby bar and restaurant terraces of the Hotel Plaza Las Glorias/El Mirador. The bar has a $9.50 cover charge which includes two drinks, but you can bypass the cover charge by having dinner at the hotel's La Perla restaurant.

Upon Arrival
Our passengers are met by representatives of Acuario Tours. They are a great source of information about what to do and see in Acapulco, so feel free to ask them lots of questions. If people offer to carry your bags, just be ready to tip them if you accept.

Traditional Mexico
To catch a glimpse of the life of an Acapulco local, do as they do and visit the Zócalo. After siesta, the citizens of Acapulco come here to socialize, and on Sunday evenings the bandstand offers music for everyone to enjoy.

Beware the Bullfight
If you're interested in the traditional Mexican sport of bullfighting, be aware that this "entertainment" is definitely not for everyone and is quite offensive to many, as the end to the performance is never in favor of the bull. If you are still intrigued, the bullfights are held on Sundays in the winter season; be sure to purchase your tickets on the shady side (sombra) of the arena.
